Silent Installation Process

When connecting LG UltraGear monitors to Windows 11 PCs for the first time, Windows Update automatically installs LG driver updates and the LG Monitor App Installer without user notification or permission prompts. The installation process occurs entirely in the background through the standard driver update mechanism.

Testing by Gamers Nexus documented the behavior across multiple LG monitor models, including the 34GX900A-B. The installed application does not appear in standard notification areas, making users unaware of the additional software installation.

Bundled Software and Advertising

The automatically installed LG software includes McAfee security software components that generate pop-up advertisements. Users reported unexpected security software promotions appearing on systems where they had not chosen to install antivirus products.

The practice raises questions about the appropriate scope of driver packages distributed through Windows Update. While manufacturers have legitimate reasons to provide device management software, bundling third-party advertising applications through driver updates extends beyond traditional hardware support functions.
